I think I’ve officially caught World Cup fever.
I’ve been watching every match I can, and now I’m trying to convince myself that spending $1,000 on a ticket is somehow a reasonable life decision because… when is this ever happening in Philadelphia again?
One thing I’ve loved is seeing fans from all over the world. Everywhere you go downtown, there are jerseys, flags, chants, and people speaking different languages. The atmosphere has been incredible.
Maybe my favorite part, though, is seeing fans from countries that are about to play each other hanging out together. In a few hours, they’ll be screaming at each other for 90 minutes, but before the match, they’re taking photos together, grabbing beers, and enjoying everything Philadelphia has to offer.
For a city that sometimes gets a reputation for being rough around the edges, we’ve looked pretty damn good this week.
The World Cup has brought a different kind of energy to Philadelphia—one that reminds you how special this city can be when the world shows up.
Now someone either convince me to buy the ticket… or talk me out of it.
